US Senators Dole and Burr are total losers

Both of our US Senators have voted against re-establishing Habeas Corpus. But I’m not surprised, they both are total tools and need to be voted out when their time comes.

Boycott Circuit City

It seems that a paying customer, Michael Righi, was arrested for not showing his receipt at the door while walking out with his purchases.

The only store I’m currently boycotting is Wal-Mart (and derivatives), but now I’ll add Circuit City to the list. Never again, losers.

Stay away from Tail of the Dragon

Since I got the new Corvette, I wanted to go do the Dragon. So this past Sunday (August 19), after visiting our friends in Franklin, Bryant and I drove to the Tail of the Dragon. I realized that there would be law enforcement officers (LEO) on the road, but I counted at least eight of them in an 11 mile stretch of highway when entering TN. It was my first time on the Dragon, so not knowing what to expect I took it very easy. It was a lot of fun taking the turns until an LEO screamed up behind me from out of nowhere (I guess they can speed without turning their lights on) and tailgates me for probably 8 miles. He was literally like 5 feet behind me. I found that you can only really go around 15-25 around the corners and the speed limit is 30mph. I’d be interested to find the video of the guy filming us. I’ll check the pictures from 129pics.com as well (since I remember that address)…

So what was a fun drive, turned into not getting rammed by the LEO behind me. Instead of going to the Dragon, may I suggest taking a cruise on the Cherohala Skyway where there were no LEOs and easy cruising. If you’re seeking a twisty road, try Wayah Road in Franlin, NC. No LEOs and cool scenery.

Update: I found pictures here. No idea why you’d buy a picture of your own car for $5 though.

MIT’s $100 laptop

If you’ve been alive for the past year, there has been quite a bit of noise about MIT’s proposed $100 laptop to be used by children around the world.

Now you can participate by pledging to purchase one laptop for $300 which would enable this project to give away two other laptops.

Too much light!

In Raleigh, it seems that about 95% of the time during the summer that it is either too cloudy or bright during the night to see anything. Of course, this is only a problem if you want to do some stargazing as most people are inside watching TV and other things during the evening. Pretty soon, however, politicians in Washington may get the opportunity to extend daylight for another two months. Somehow they believe that this will save energy, when in fact peak energy usage is always during working hours.

If they actually want to save energy, they should increase the CAFE to something like 40mpg instead of the current average of 21mpg. An even better idea would be to shorten full-time working hours from 40 to 32, since pretty much everyone would be for that. Or we could give 10 billion dollars of tax money to the energy cartels to … well … just for fun.

Big Oil buys US Senate

It is official. 51 Senators spoke for 295,675,259 USians and decided that we didn’t want places devoid of development by voting to defeat an amendment to stop the drilling in the Arctic Wildlife Refuge that was attached to the US Budget. I guess the $80,000,000 spent on bribes to the various campaigns in the past six years from the gas and oil industry finally worked.

Toyota of Durham ads are annoying

Does anybody else hate seeing the Toyota of Durham ads on TV every 5 min? He has been having a final, final, sale for years now. For perpetrating such an annoyance, I will never consider buying a car from that dealership.

ACC Hall of Champion’s Fund Bill — more Pork

I heard on the news that a bill to appropriate $20,000,000 to build an ACC Hall of Champion’s memorial in Greensboro. It comes as no surprise that the three co-sponsors are all from Greensboro. With a huge budget deficit in North Carolina, I think this seems wasteful and is probably just a publicity stunt, as I cannot imagine that anybody else would seriously consider this.

I just heard an ACC “champion” try to assemble complete sentences — maybe we need to spend more on education in NC?

Here’s a link to the bill
