Ugliest Car of 2005

I was watching some TV and a car commercial came on about an exciting car. Well if exciting means ugly and moronic, then the Dodge Magnum is the most exciting car I’ve seen since the 1991 Chevrolet Caprice.

Support Job Losses, shop Wal-Mart

If you support low prices and job losses, shop at Wal-Mart — it’s the American thing to do. Besides, your neighbor didn’t need that well-paying job with benefits… just remember you saved $0.15 on that pair of socks.

Vote for Higher Taxes by Choosing Amendment One

The advertisements are counting on ignorant NC citizens on voting for “more jobs” by choosing Amendment One. They don’t tell how this proposal would be a handout for corporations while citizens are left holding the bag. They also don’t mention how this proposal has been voted down twice — once in 1982 and again in 1993.

Amendment One Too good to be true.

Get Firefox

I recommend dumping Internet Explorer and getting Mozilla’s Firefox browser. It is a free download and the source code is available if you’re inclined to hack it. What are the benefits?

  • Open Source
  • Multiplatform (runs on different types of computers)
  • Free
  • No worms, viruses, or popups
  • Doesn’t use technology from 2001, like Microsoft.
  • Standards Compliant

Get it here!

Is Senator Dole representing NC?

After years of sending my concerns to North Carolina Senators Dole and Edwards. I received my second letter from Senator Dole about how she was a co-sponsor of the Marriage Amendment that never made it to a vote.

I’m not sure what she has been doing these past few years, but thank goodness she has been protecting us from people who want to get married. She certainly has never responded to any comments for public education or the environment. I’m not sure if this is because she is not a high ranking Senator, but only highlighting the Marriage Amendment which failed doesn’t seem like something to be proud of.

Oh, and Edwards has responded to tons of letters…

Oppose the INDUCE Act

I have yet to see anything about this in any TV or newspaper, so I decided to send this to all of you to hopefully get some of you to take action!

A new bill has been introduced into the US Senate (S.2560), dubbed the “INDUCE Act”. This bill is sponsored by both the Majority and Minority leaders in the Senate. This act is supposed to protect children from the dangers of ‘free music’, but most likely it is being introduced because these Senators have been bought by the entertainment industry. There are only 35 days left in session for Congress to work on new bills so this may not make it to vote, but they have passed things like the PATRIOT Act in a few days, and it lets the FBI search your library and purchase records, so you never know what can happen.

Basically, the INDUCE Act would make it illegal to use the following devices:

1) VCR
2) iPod or other MP3 player
3) Xerox machine
4) Camcorder
5) Digital Camera
6) CD-R/DVD-R drives
7) the computer you are using right now 8) anything that can be used to reproduce copyrighted material, even if there are substantial non-infringing uses.

It would effectively stop any new products to come out that may be used to duplicate copyrighted material, like a new Tivo, or a DVD recorder.

The text of the Bill is a few sentences long and can be viewed directly on the Library of Congress website:

Nobody thought that the Senate would even bring this to committee, but it is now. You can read the “Honorable” Senator’s comments here:

TAKE ACTION: The Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) has set up an informational website where you can SEND FAXES FOR FREE to your Congressional Representative. Just fill out your name and address and it takes care of it.

Imaging M8 and M20

Sunday morning from between 1-2 am I managed to somewhat get a break in the clouds long enough to image the Milky Way, M8 and M20. I am still waiting on my wedge and adapters, so I shot these using the SLR piggybacked on the LX90. Since this is film I have no idea how it looks until that roll is developed, but I’m thinking they will look pretty bad as this is the first time I’ve done this!

If they are any good, eventually I’ll have them on my gallery. Eventually.

Venus Transit – No Show

I had planned on shooting some pictures of the transit with my LX90/G5 using an Identiview solar filter, but naturally the weather gods decided to cover the area in a thick sheet of fog. If the sky clears up after work, I’m going to see if I can view the reflection of Venus from the sun, but I’m not sure that will happen.

Update: Still cloudy, so no chance of the above happening.
